The Cost of Late Employees

tardinessEight o’clock.  It’s time to start another work day.  The same few who are always early have been checking their email since they arrived.  A few minutes after eight, their co-workers begin to arrive but with little notice from others.  By 8:15 pretty much everyone is present, clocked in, logged in, or checked in.  Now it’s time for the coffee parade where virtually everyone joins the queue to the free coffee machine for the first “break” of the day.  Fifteen minutes into the day and the one thing that everyone has accomplished for sure is the coffee pot has been emptied.

What does tardiness do to a company?  Does it really make any difference to anything?  Do happy employees with relatively unstructured days truly produce more effectively?  Is widespread, chronic tardiness of any major concern to the welfare of the company or even to the welfare of the staff?

CBR launches Educational Web site

to Discuss NEW Immigration Law

Creative Business Resources (CBR), announces its new Web site to help Arizona businesses understand the new immigration law that takes effect Jan. 1, 2008.  The Web site is www.azimmigrationcompliance.com and will feature articles, resources, compliance tips and a blog for local business owners to voice their concerns and ask questions about the new law.

“Since the law was passed, we have seen a vast increase in questions and concerns from our clients and the local business community in general,” said Aaron Witsoe, president of CBR.  “We decided that there needed to be one, central source where anyone could go to learn about this new law, ask questions and find additional resources. Our hope is that this Web site will fill that void and be a resource for all local business owners.”

The Web site is centered on House bill 2779 which was signed into law July 2, 2007.  The law imposes penalties on employers who either “knowingly” or “intentionally” hire undocumented workers. The first offense can result in a suspension of a business license for up to 10 days. Employers that violate the law more than once risk losing their business licenses.

“The best thing business owners can do is become educated,” said Witsoe.  “Business owners should have a clear sense of what it means to ‘knowingly’ or ‘intentionally’ hire unauthorized workers. They should also learn what the consequences are and try to stay up-to-date on programs and procedures.”
