Keeping it in the family - or not?

Have you thought about your nepotism policy lately? There comes a time where one needs to evaluate and take a closer look at all of their companies HR policies. With a subject like nepotism some might not even think twice about it, but it doesn’t hurt to have a policy put in place, just like having one for company romances. Business owners should be able to make a personal decision about the subject but just keep certain parameters in mind. These may include:

• Screen all of your applicants by the same criteria
• Be consistent by applying the same job performance standards and expectations to every employee
  
• Follow - impartially - company discipline policy
• Be open about the policy
